Wow, 10 years flies by!

10 years ago on Aug. 18th I entered the MTC very afraid, but ready to serve. I was a missionary in the New York, New York South mission for 20 months. I was called English speaking, but 11 months into my mission I was switched to American Sign Language. I grew to love the people of New York and especially the hearing impaired. I spent most of my mission in Brooklyn, but some in Queens and a short 2 months out in Long Island. I had such a great experience. I made many great friends, and learned so much about the gospel of Jesus Christ, and conquered several fears. Sometimes I can't even believe some of the things I did while there. I grew so much and can attribute a lot of who I am to those wonderful (but very hard) 20 months.

What is an experience in your life that largely shaped who you are?

  1. Having kids! Seriously that has been quite the testimony builder for me. Trials by fire are tough, but worth it.

  2. Angie,

I'm sorry to take this route, but I have no other means of getting a hold of you. I have some news that you and your family may want to know. Please email me at ( kurtisccall@yahoo.com ).

    Thanks,
    - Kurtis

    PS: Very nice looking family!

  3. Lets see - meeting Cody and having a family have certainly changed my life! But I would have to say something huge was when I moved to Las Vegas after High School and worked in a huge Law Firm. That taught me so much - I learned a lot about myself, about who I was, how to depend on myself. It was hard at times, but a fantastic experience!

  4. I still can't believe that my friend and I backpacked across Europe the summer before I got married. We stayed in hostels and everything. I guess I'm more paranoid now, but I didn't think it was a big deal then. It really opened my eyes to the fact that there's much more out there than my relatively small "bubble."

  5. Let's see... about nine years ago, I was welcoming in a new sister to the "deafie" zone who was just transferred to a sign language program.

What fun we had, right? The trip to Montauk, "Goodbye Earl", your beautiful piano playing... There probably isn't still a day that goes by that I don't think about my time in NYC.

  6. Huh, I forgot you were out for 20 months. I'm glad we got to be in the MTC together, even if we didn't get to see each other all that much. I still think it's funny that Shirley was in your district, and all three of us being from the same stake and going in the MTC the same day and everything.

Do you teach your girls any sign language?
